Initiative Citoyenne is a group of Belgian citizens and health professionals whose aim, since the beginning, has been to achieve greater transparency with respect to swine flu. We have filed through our lawyers, Me G.H. Beauthier and Me P. Vanlangendonck, a number of legal proceedings against the State in an attempt to get the vital answers to our initial questions. When, in May 2010, the secret vaccine purchase contract was made public, here in Belgium, it was clear to us how much of it was incompatible with democracy and human dignity. This disgraceful text, that forbids any analysis of vaccine ingredients (e.g. the adjuvant) and shields the manufacturers against potential claims from the victims, constitutes firm evidence that most of the health ministers throughout the world are insufficiently informed and worse still, not really concerned about public interest. Unfortunately, it appears that only money and profit count. When it comes to health, this is simply unacceptable. The Polish Health Minister has shown the world that political courage is really possible. With swine flu, public awareness has awakened across the world and various initiatives have been created in many countries. We have produced a small film to encapsulate our activities since the beginning of this saga and to give people the opportunity to know us better.

It would be a mistake to think that the swine flu saga is simply over. Nothing is really definitively over and as history is a process of constant renewal, we must pay careful attention, remain vigilant and understand that the future may bring more pandemics, so frequently announced but also so strangely predictable.

Initiative Citoyenne est un groupe de citoyens et de professionnels de santé belges qui essaient, depuis le début, d'obtenir plus de transparence dans le dossier du H1N1. Avec nos avocats, Me G.H Beauthier et Me P. Vanlangendonck, nous avons mené différentes actions en justice contre l'état afin d'obtenir les réponses à nos questions initiales. Lorsque le contrat secret d'achat de vaccins a été révélé en Belgique, en mai 2010, nous avons compris à quel point cela était indigne pour la démocratie et la dignité humaine. Ce texte scandaleux qui interdit par exemple de faire analyser les vaccins ou qui empêche les citoyens de se retourner contre le fabricant est la preuve que la plupart des ministres de la santé ne se préoccupent plus assez de l'intérêt du citoyen. Seul l'argent et le profit comptent. En matière de santé, c'est inacceptable. La Ministre de la Santé polonaise a, elle, montré au monde que le courage politique n’était pas un vain mot. 

Avec le H1N1, la conscience populaire s'est réveillée un peu partout dans le monde et différentes initiatives ont été menées dans différents pays. Nous avons réalisé un petit film qui synthétise nos actions et démarches jusqu'à présent afin que les gens puissent mieux nous connaître. 

Ce serait une erreur de penser que le H1N1, c'est du passé. Rien n'est jamais terminé et l'histoire n'est jamais qu'un éternel recommencement. Nous devons être vigilants et comprendre que l'avenir sera à d'autres "pandémies" tant annoncées et si étrangement prévisibles.
